Evening Wildlife Watching Hide Update February 2026
The Badgers are beginning to become more regular again. The winter months can be a slow time for the Badgers as the cold often keeps them inside their setts, but there have been nights recently where up to two have been showing.

January is one of the coldest months in the Cairngorms but there is still plenty to see. At Dalnahaittnach there are Crested Tits and Crossbills, with Roe Deer, Brown Hares, Eurasian Woodcock, Eurasian Curlews possible. I heard Crested Tits, Crossbills and saw a Eurasian Woodcock this month, the latter became an unexpected sighting.

2026 has just begun and already, plenty has happened. There have been sightings of Badgers, Pine Martens and even the Scottish Wildcat. Tawny Owls have been heard and there’s been excellent stargazing opportunities, when the nights have been clear, with Jupiter and multiple star constellations seen and enjoyed by guests.

Wildlife of December 2025
It had been quite cold in the Cairngorms this past December. But just because it was cold, didn’t mean there was nothing to see, quite the opposite. Around Inshriach, there were plenty of songbirds such as Great Tits, Coal Tits, Blue Tits, Long Tailed Tits and Greenfinches. On occasion, I spot Buzzards and Sparrowhawk, flashing past, as it swoops after songbirds. I managed to see all of these species in December.

Hopefully 2026 will be just as full of sightings as 2025.

Evening Wildlife Watching Hide Update December 2025
The second last hide update of the year, what a thing to say. Winter is here and there are still Badgers, Pine Martens and the Scottish Wildcat to see as well as a Wood Mouse. It’s definitely colder as everything winds back for the year, but there is still plenty going on. Badgers One night, for the first time in weeks, a Badger came from the left-hand side and sniffed around before going away. Later, the same individual returned and at one point it looked as though it would

Evening Wildlife Watching Hide Update October 2025
Introduction October has been a busy month for visitors and wildlife alike. We’ve had Badgers almost every night and we’ve had Pine Martens and the Scottish Wildcat on several nights too. Tawny Owls are being heard hooting to establish their territories for next year’s breeding, Red Deer can be heard roaring in the surrounding countryside, Leopard Slugs were still feeding on the ground despite the cold and there have been clear starry nights with several constellations visibl

Speyside Wildlife October Day Guide Blog
October is here and it’s looking very autumnal here in the Cairngorm’s National Park. The leaves are either turning orange or have fallen off. The Ospreys have gone south to Africa, so have the Swallows, Sand and House Martins. The Black Throated Divers and Slavonian Grebes have returned to the coast for the winter. But there is still plenty happening within the National Park and before long we’re bound to get more autumn visitors.

Summer Day Guiding Highlights
This past summer has been a series of surprises during our Guided Day’s Out. The Summer months always seem a little bit quieter with most birds quietly recovering from raising young. However, with more birds present, provides more food availability for raptors.

Cornwall - Seabirds, Migrants and More
Cornwall is the most south westerly part of the British mainland, characterised by farmland, sea cliffs, estuaries and an immense area of moorland called Bodmin Moor. A feature of Cornwall in the time that we visit, in the autumn, is a mass migration of waders and seabirds. There is an opportunity to see rarities that are rare or impossible to see in most other places.

May 2025 Evening Wildlife Watching Hide Update
The Badgers are coming to the hide much later, with the daylight hours extending until after 10 pm, we have adjusted our start time and this can mean some very late nights. One night after 11 pm, a female Badger walked in and was transitioning into her summer coat. Her fur was mostly blonde, but with a grey patch spreading down the neck. I explained to the guests that the grey patch was the summer coat coming through and it looks a deeper silvery grey than its winter coat.
