Our recent ‘Outer Hebrides in Spring’ trip was packed full of wonderful wildlife encounters and simply breathtaking scenery. The beaches were teeming with hundreds of stunning passage waders in their breeding finery, including beautiful Red Knot and several lovely Curlew Sandpipers. We also enjoyed a large passage of migrant Whimbrel through the islands, giving us daily views of these elegant spring waders enroute to Iceland.
We had brilliant views of Short-eared Owls, as well as Hen Harriers, including a male ‘skydancing’ over the moorland. As for eagles, we enjoyed sightings of multiple White-tailed Eagles and simply awesome views of a sub-adult Golden Eagle that flew incredibly low right over our group.
With superb views of two Corncrakes right out in the open, even crossing the road in front of us, the Outer Hebrides in Spring was as brilliant as ever.
