Speyside 24/7 2018 Trip Report

“What a great week we had, full of surprises. After spending one evening visiting our Evening Mammal Hide, where we saw Badgers and two beautiful Pine Marten, we visited another hide to try and spot European Beaver. We always keep this a surprise for our guests until the very last minute – only one guessed where we were going and we were treated to one Beaver swimming across the loch, escorted by two Great-crested Grebes who definitely wanted to see him off their territory! We had a lovely evening out and watched as a Roe Deer waded into the loch and swam across in the twilight.

The dolphins at Chanonry Point could not have performed better for us, with one leaping out of the water and juggling a large salmon before swallowing it! A spectacular drive across to the west coast on a truly magical day of bright sunshine, ended with a fly past from a magnificent White-tailed Eagle spotted by an ‘eagle-eyed guest’!

Though the weather was against us on our day up Cairngorm Mountain we still managed exciting views of Ptarmigan and Snowbunting, from the comfort of the restaurant at the top of the mountain railway whilst clutching a mug of hot chocolate – well-needed, as the wind was icy cold. We saw Osprey on all but one day of the trip and had some great photo opportunities at Udale Bay, where one stayed around for quite a time being mobbed by Crows. A great week with lots of laughter with a lovely group of guests.”
